What a difference a year makes in one’s life. I went from having issues with cash flow to repossession, to unemployment, and wondering when I’ll get tossed out of my apartment with a child. Today, I can honestly say I am beginning to bounce back.
The cash flow issue arose when I lent a family member some money, with the intention that they would repay me. Sadly, that family member didn’t pay me back, claiming I gave to them freely, even though I had a verbal agreement. I filed for bankruptcy (I kept notes on our discussion). My bankruptcy was discharged in June, and I’m waiting a bit before I apply for a credit card.
The bankruptcy filing resulted in my car being repossessed. Zora and I lost our ride, but there was an alternative way to get around the city: public transit. It gave her a chance to learn how to dress appropriately for colder temperatures. I can say that I will get a new vehicle in 2026. I don’t care about the bells and whistles about a vehicle; I need to get from point A to point B.
Unemployment/eviction was the scariest thing for me. I was unsure how I’d pay the rent or where my next job would come from. Fortunately, I scraped up enough cash to pay up my rent (thanks to emptying out my 401k and my tax money), got a part-time job, and have now been at my long-term position for a few weeks. I worked out a deal with my landlord to pay off all the outstanding rent and fees. I did get a storage unit and placed a lot of my belongings there. My goal is to move out and into a new place temporarily as I look for a house to move into that’s permanent.
That’s it for today. I’ll see you tomorrow!
