Day 11 of Blogtober

I wanted to give you a glimpse into my nightly routine at the hospital where I work in the city.

When I arrive at work, the first thing I do is grab some scrubs and change into them. Depending on how early it is, I’ll make some progress on my book. I’ll clock in and find out where I’m assigned to. As part of my training, I work in the emergency room, where my tasks include cleaning the examination rooms after patient departures, the trauma rooms, and the bathrooms. I pull the garbage at the nurses’ stations.

During the downtime, I’ll scroll on social media or work on my book. I’ll chat briefly with the nurses, doctors, and some other workers on my shift until there’s another room to clean. To avoid falling asleep, I walk around to get the blood flowing or to come up with something for my book. I don’t like to sit idle.

Toward the end of the shift, I take a final look around to ensure no rooms are missed before we leave early in the morning to go home. Leaving the hospital as the sun rises is a magical feeling. I need to get a picture of it one of these days.

That’s it for now. Tomorrow, I take you through a day in my life as an elder millennial single mom. I’ll see you then!
