I am writing a book, and it’s nearing completion. I didn’t want to say anything so soon. I wanted to be at least 75% done with my project before sending it to the editor. The real work begins with drafts, book covers, and everything else before I hit ‘publish’.
Let me back up. In 2023, I decided to write a short story titledĀ “Smoke Break.” It was about four pages, 1,000 words. My friend, Ray, suggested that I consider expanding the story into something bigger. We got to conversing, and the topic of careers none of us want came up. I don’t want to be a politician, and he didn’t want to be a cop. From that, I identified two individuals with those careers and began the research. The story is fiction, but at its core, it is a love story. I added villains, other characters, and scenes that are in the works. I can’t reveal the working title as of yet. That is going to be book two in the series, and the other books are in fragments.
This summer, I began working on a novella set during the fast-approaching holiday season. It’s four chapters. It will be the first book in a series, serving as a prequel to the larger story. As soon as I mentioned I was working on this novella, a lot of people started sending me DMs. They tried to sell me their services. They offered to do character art for me and X, Y, and Z. I accepted a couple, and the others I gave a side-eye. Before I hire anyone, I ask for their website, prices, and whether they have any social media presence. The last thing I want is to get ripped off by someone who’s running a scam.
As of today, I am working on one of the chapters in the novella. The second book is half done, and a part of the novella I’m writing is included in the next book in the series, albeit in more detail. The second book has love, a villain, a revenge plot, and a surprise twist that sets up the next three books in the upcoming series.
That’s it for today. I’ll see you all tomorrow!
