I received my new work schedule on Thursday. Wow. While I’m excited to return to work, I’m glad it’s at the tail end of Zora’s school year.

Let me rewind to the end of January. I went to the CARA offices to get in on the March cohort, but a spot opened up for February. I hopped on it because I wanted to get to work right away. I was too excited. Not only did I begin, but I also made some friends there. I got deactivated because I was sick and missed a critical day. So, I cared for my health, went to the necessary doctor’s appointments, rested, and prepared to return to CARA in April. This time, I gained temporary employment with Clean Slate, a neighborhood beautification project. I get joy from knowing that I’m doing my part in keeping the city of Chicago clean. Clean Slate will lead me to a better position in another company.

Since working for Clean Slate, I have never been so sore. My feet swelled up, my knees were on fire, and my back screamed for relief. I felt great knowing I did some good in the city. Thank God, I was able to take a bath in Epsom salts and rubbing alcohol. I also received free coffee, a sticker from a bookstore that opened up, and lots of dogs wanting to play. Some preschoolers said, ‘Thank you, superhero.’ I feel seen.

That’s it for now. I’ve also got a certificate for building my skills in leadership, time management, conflict resolution, and other areas. Lately, I have been sent jobs comparable to my skill set, and I can’t wait to go on interviews. I’ll see you in the next post!
